How many leis are too many? Not sure. There may be no limit.

Those 30 leis interfered with her ability to drink this delicious capri sun, a treat she rarely gets.  (We’re a water, milk, sometimes iced tea and rarely juice kind of house.)  So, without argument she allowed me to remove the leis one by one so she could savor her juice.  We were then able to give them to her guests as intended.  My girl likes jewelry, a lot, and a lot of it.  😉

Sadly, some parties are not complete without tears.

Sadly, some parties are not complete without tears.  Poor Heidi learned about the flame of a candle at her birthday party.  My hands weren’t quick enough.  😦  She recovered quickly, no blister formed and I am sure she won’t touch the flame of a candle again anytime soon.

Heidi’s birthday party at the Lowcountry Children’s Museum, July 2011

She walked into the party room and saw the “necklaces” hanging on the back of each chair. One was simply not enough, she walked chair by chair and put each one on. She would not hear of taking them off. In the spirit of it being “her” day, I didn’t make her. She did, however, reach a point when she was ready to lighten her load and allowed the necklaces to be shared with her guests.

Our Miss Catherine, Wyatt’s favorite girl, right behind his Mama and sister.  😉

WE PARADED THROUGH THE CHILDREN’S MUSEUM!  Everyone in the museum clapped to the music as our parade went by, each child playing an instrument of their own.  It was too cute!

The things you catch being in the right place at the right time.  Fortunately, there was no meltdown following this.  I guess she’s used to sharing.

Heidi sharing some icing the toddler way.

Checking out the scenery or planning an escape?  Could have been either.

Stand off between cousins.  😉

The Dunlap Men

It was perfect.  This was when I should have given her a fresh piece of paper.  Beautiful, frame-worthy, abstract art by my precious girl.  Instead I let her keep painting.

Boys will be Boys (PG 13)

Today was a big day for Wyatt. He took his first step while I was at work and took a few more once I got home. In addition, the new Victoria’s Secret catalogue arrived in the mail. What’s the big deal about the VS catalogue? Well, apparently Wyatt appreciates the female form. It is no surprise. He is the sweetest, most snuggly baby and has always been instantly calmed when pressed against a woman’s chest, any woman’s chest. My formula fed baby has instinctively known from day one that boobies were something special.

Well, on with the story. The VS catalogue ended up on the floor. Wyatt’s radar sounded: crinkly paper, pages to turn, pictures, out-of-the-ordinary toy. He quickly crawled over to it, sat up and started turning the pages. He settled on a page and began deliberately pointing here and there on the page. Catherine, our nanny, walked over to him and saw that he was pointing at each of the model’s chests (3 in total). She chuckled and said “Sorry buddy, those aren’t real.” At which point he picked up the magazine with both hands and buried his face in the fold.

Boys will be boys and it starts early.
